Beechworth North East Victoria
A historic landmark in itself, Freeman on Ford is magnificently situated in the heart of the Beechworth’s Historic Precinct, making it the perfect location from which to explore this unique town. Take in the sights of Australia’s most intact gold-rush era streets, shop at exquisite boutiques, and enjoy intimate cafes and nationally renowned restaurants.
Visit purveyors of fine regional wines, craft beer and gourmet produce, or take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage.
The Visitor Information Centre is located a few doors away, where staff can provide you with information about local attractions such as the Court House in which Ned Kelly was committed to stand trial, the sound and light show at the Beechworth Powder Magazine, and the heritage-listed botanic gardens at the former May Day Hills Asylum.
Staff will also help you book for Historic Precinct and old Beechworth Gaol tours, as well as Beechworth’s famous ghost tours.
Beechworth Surrounds
Beechworth is a treasure trove of natural beauty. View here photos of the gorge area in the National Historic Park. You can take about an hour’s walk or a 15 minute car drive to view some of the natural water holes/falls and to view the amazing rock bolders. Some of these rock bolders used to house aboriginal living areas. If you are fortunate enough to walk early around this natural setting, or at dusk, you may see wallabies and other wild life.
Beechworth has an amazing bike track which is a 200 km sealed former railway line. Please see photos below of the bike track. One can hire bicycles in town or use the ones at Freeman on Ford. We currently have 3 mountain bikes and one racing bike for guests to use free of charge with helmets.
